A monumental modern dragon sculpture for the Green Sun Building of Solid House, Inc. in Makati City. It is a dramatic 2,000-scale sculpture that wraps itself around the building’s very first constructed pillar as seen in the hotel lobby and works its way up to the ceiling of the bar and lounge. First Pillar is a tribute to Solid House, Inc. Chairman Emeritus and Dragon - Elena Sen Lim.
“I wanted to show power and stability as represented by a modern dragon and at the same time, create a sense of mystery and magic by not showing where the dragon’s head is. One is always left wondering where the head is.”
“I used gold electroplated metal for the scales. The scales represent infinite pockets of possibilities and ideas and with its reflective material, the viewer is made part of the whole poetry when they see their image magnified several times on the scales.”
“This is my biggest sculptural installation yet. The most challenging part is arranging and doing overhead welding of the scales one by one on my metal frame which took me and my team five months to complete because I wanted to achieve a certain fluidity with the direction of the scales.”
